When The Dead Speak – Laura Kayne

When the dead speak,
It’s through photographs,
Old flickering pieces of home video,
Letters, birthday cards,
Abandoned notes once pinned
To the front of refrigerators.
They wave through time,
Tell you to smile, say cheese,
Enjoy your day and have
A great year.
Or to remember to buy milk,
Eggs, cereal, and you really try
Not to forget their favourite brand,
Or shirt, book, TV show,
How the radio was tuned
To The Archers over lunch.

Laura Kayne lives in Sussex, England, where she is obsessed by books and enjoys walking by the sea. She has had a number of poems published both online and in print, including in Mslexia and Aesthetica magazine.
